Last year, the government made commitment to phase out dependence on Coal Power. This year, woes within the Coal Power Sector continue. The total power-mix of energy in the U.K has seen significant reduction of Coal, contributing under 5% last year. With the introduction of EFR batteries and a push towards more Renewable Energy sources, the demand for power produced by Coal has reduced considerably. This trend of inefficiency of the Coal Power Sector has caused Eggborough Power Plant to make the decision to close, stating that their Coal Power Plant was no longer economically viable.
